Picasa and Hello

Just tried Picasa and Hello and impressed.

In addition to free hosting, Hello makes it super easy to add photoes to blogger.com. The only thing needs improving is that Hello uses IE as web browser which we all know is a bad, bad idea!

Picasa is nice. A lot better than ACDSee, without all the unnecessary features yet it feels friendly, sophisticated and elegant. This reminds me of a lecture by google staff a year ago about being "useable" or "useful". ACDSee version numbers keep growing while the software is achieving newer levels of sucking. The best ACDSee version is the one I used back in 1998 (ACDSee32 v2.40) which is nothing more than an image organizer and browser and is even faster on 33MHz 486 than today's fancy ACDSee on 2.8GHz. Moore's Law is only ture in terms of hardware speed. In terms of useful performance computers are growing not just fast and in some cases such as ACDSee, it's even negative.
